Hyundai USA Team secured the pole position today for the ADAC TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Nürburgring, in the #831 Elantra N TCR. Michael Lewis improved on his fastest time from Thursday’s qualifying session by 11 seconds, setting a 9-minute lap on the 12.943 mile Nordschleife circuit at Nürburgring.
The team was bumped into the pole position when their Target Competition sister car, the #830 Elantra N TCR was penalized five positions for an on-track incident. In his first ever qualifying attempt at Nürburgring, Lewis’s time was just four seconds slower than the 2022 race winning #830 Elantra N TCR entry.
Lewis along with his BHA teammates, Mason Filippi, Harry Gottsacker and Taylor Hagler will take the green flag for the ADAC TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Nürburgring, tomorrow, Saturday, May 20th at 4pm (CEST). Live coverage of the race will air in the United States on www.motorsport.tv. For live radio coverage, visit www.radiolemans.com.
Michael Lewis: I really appreciate all of the help from Hyundai. We got the pole! It’s pretty crazy how it happened. We ran the second fastest which was great, but our sister car, the #830 was the fastest car today. Unfortunately they were given a five-position penalty for an incident in a qualiyfing session. They are very experienced and have had a lot of success here, I am sure they will come through the field quickly, but I think our time today and now being on the pole is a great reward for all of the hard work myself and my BHA teammate have put into this program the last few months. I’d also like to express my gratitude to Target Competition, the team we are running with here, they have been terrific and I am also thankful to everyone at BHA for all of their help with this program. Tomorrow is going to be an exciting day!”
