Laguna Beach, California—Michael Lewis’s weekend at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia, was filled with plenty of accomplishments during Rounds 3 and 4, April 25 and 26, of the Formula BMW Americas Championship.
Fielding his No. 42 Formula BMW for Eurointernational, Michael began the weekend by qualifying a strong 3rd for Round 3. After the start of the race, Michael passed Eurointernational teammate and series points leader Gabby Chaves and trailed race leader and teammate Giancarlo Vilarinho for second position. Michael continued in second position throughout the race. Unfortunately, Michael’s car lost power with only four laps to go, and therefore, ended up finishing Round 3 in 11th position.
Before the Round 3 event on Saturday, April 25, the Formula BMW Americas Championship competitors qualified for Round 4, with Michael earning the 5th starting spot. On Sunday, April 26, Michael planned to improve on his performance from the day before. He ran a strong race, and although fell back to eighth due to two on-track incidents caused by other competitors, he worked his way back up to finish Round 4 in 5th place. Michael now stands in 7th position in the series points standings.
Michael and the Eurointernational team will next visit Miller Motorsports Park, in Tooele, Utah, for Rounds 5, 6 and 7, May 15–17.
