Laguna Beach, California—Michael Lewis, driving the #60 Western Speed Ford Focus Midget at the high-banked Las Vegas 1/3-mile paved track known as the Bullring, recorded a fifth-place finish in the 30-lap USAC California Ford Focus Pavement Series feature event on Saturday, April 4. Michael’s teammate Cody Gerhardt, driving the #40 Western Speed Ford Focus, finished third. Michael’s fifth-place finish enabled him to climb to second position in the USAC California Ford Focus Pavement Series championship, only 11 points behind leader Eric Gunderson.
Michael qualified eighth and finished fourth in the heat race. Michael started eighth in the feature and worked his way up to fifth by the end of the race. “I learned a lot about how to attack the Bullring and it was fun racing there,” said Michael.
The Western Speed Ford Focus team’s next race will be at I-10 Speedway in Blythe, California, on Saturday, April 18th.
